The Rebs took care of business against the UC Riverside Highlanders Saturday evening.  Predictably, UNLV had the advantage the entire game.  Give credit to the Highlanders, early in the second half they made the Rebels sweat a little more.

UNLV came out fast paced and defensive minded in the first half. Their offensive runs were punctuated by Derrick Jones, Jr.'s power dunks. Meanwhile, stand out Patrick McCaw led the Runnin' Rebs with 17 points.  And when the Highlanders cut into the big lead with runs of their own, the Rebels needed McCaw's surge of offense most.

The Highlander's SRC Arena looked much more like a UNLV home game with plenty of people decked out in their Rebel red.  Chants of "Rebelssss" were heard as the team both entered and exited the court after their victory.

Some thoughts on the game: Stephen Zimmerman continued to have a consistent offensive outing but also continues to find himself in foul trouble with a tendency to jump to block the ball rather than attempt to stand his ground and take a charge.

Meanwhile, Ben Carter continues to show a versatile set of power forward and center offensive moves and has proven to be a gritty defensive presence.  Finally, Jordan Cornish's frustration - due to his lack of offensive contribution - is evident on his face but he continues to add defensive prowess and vocal leadership for his squad (something that can't be measured on a box score).
