Fresno State Recruits Will Try to Add on to Last Year's Average Finish
The Bulldogs under Mike Batesole always seem to have a good class of recruits. This year is no different.
Zach Ashford, OF, Buchanan HS, Clovis, CA
You may have read a little bit about him on the FSU athletics site. He made an all-region team and he also made first team all-state by MaxPreps after hitting .478 with an astounding 27 stolen bases. Lead-off hitter, indeed. Oh, he also made second team AA for MaxPreps. Think he can help?
Jack Ackerman, C, California HS, San Ramon, CA
Couldn't find a lot about Jack.
RJ Cordeiro, INF, Bishop Diego HS, San Diego, CA
RJ could be something special. He hit .404 his senior year in San Diego but he hit 9 home runs which is the special part. He not only made all-city for San Diego but he was the MVP. A shortstop who bats left and hits home runs. Hmm.
Ross Dodds, INF, Buchanan HS, Clovis, CA
About all I found was that Ross made Cal-Hi Sports' third team all-state team. If that's all you can find (I like stats, personally) on a player, AA or all-state is pretty good.
Alec Gamboa, LHP, Madera HS, Madera, CA
Alec hit .321 as a senior. He was in the running for male athlete of the year for California (football and baseball).
Ryan Sullivan, RHP, Oak Ridge HS, El Dorado, CA
Ryan was 5-2 and 2.35 his senior year which garnered him All-Metro for the Sacramento area. Not bad.
James Dawson Terrell III, OF, St. Patrick-St. Vincent HS, Fairfield, CA
Drafted and signed.
Kenny Varnell, LHP, Moorpark HS, Moorpark, CA
He was 9-1 and 1.11 and struck out about a batter an inning. That meets all the standards in my book; wins, ERA, and strikeouts.
The Bulldogs were just a tad over .500 last season so this year's recruits should help in a position or two. Names to remember are Ashford, Cordeiro, and Varnell. An infielder, an outfielder, and a pitcher. Now, is that asking too much?
