Week 5 Mountain West power poll: Colorado State tumbles after loss

A lot of movement this week in the latest Mountain West power poll.

Now that conference play is upon us we can take a better look of the conference and rank them more accurately. The top spot goes to Boise State and after their drubbing over Hawaii, and coupled with Air Force's loss the Broncos are the unanimous selection at the top spot.

Utah State made a jump from four to two with a solid 33-18 win over Colorado State and they looked real good with Kent Myers under center, and linebacker Kyler Fackrell looking great with possibly his best game since coming back from his torn ACL with six quarterback hurries, a sack, three tackles for a loss and a force fumble.

The loss for Colorado State dropped them behind San Jose State and San Diego State. The Aztecs made a huge leap from nine to the fifth spot after beating Fresno State, who 11 of 12 in the poll. That jump was somewhat unexpected due beating a bad team. The Spartans move up due to another big game by Tyler Ervin who had 160 yards and a touchdown in a loss to Auburn.

A few oddities in the poll saw UNLV earn a second place vote after beating rival Nevada, and then New Mexico earned two second place votes after topping New Mexico State.

One interesting note in this poll is that a West team moved into the top four with San Jose State breaking through the wall that was held by the upper tier in the conference.
