The Boise State Broncos added another recruit to their impressive 2015 class, landing San Clemente (CA) outside linebacker Riley Whimpey:

Whimpey wasn't heavily recruited. His only other offer came from Utah State, while P5 schools such as Utah and Northwestern had only expressed moderate interest.

Probably the most important thing to note on Whimpey is that he won't be suiting up until 2017, following the completion of his LDS mission. His scholarship won't count against the Broncos until then.

Databases are pretty split on Whimpey; he's anywhere from a three-star recruit and the fifteenth-best OLB in California (Scout) to entirely unranked (247sports), depending on where you look.

There's a lot of good stuff on his tape, though. He has decent size at 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds and the athleticism he brings to the outside linebacker position is entertaining, to say the least. He's a fundamentally sound tackler, always managing to square up when possible and rarely relying on big hits to bring the ballcarrier down. He lacks any real explosion and will need to bulk up before taking on the bigger, stronger players of FBS, but the positives outweigh the negatives at this point.

During his senior year at San Clemente, Whimpey racked up a total of 175 tackles, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, five forced fumbles, a blocked punt, and seven TFL.
