The San Diego State athletics department announced Wednesday that its football team will begin a home-and-home series with the South Alabama Jaguars next season. The Aztecs will host the Jaguars at Qualcomm Stadium on Sept. 19, 2015, and they will travel to Mobile, Alabama, on Oct. 1, 2016.
USA has gone 14-24 in its last three seasons. The Jaguars went 6-7 last year and reached the first bowl game in their short program history (the program was established in 2009).
The Aztecs and Jaguars have never played each other.
SDSU finished its 2014-15 campaign with a 17-16 loss to Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl to leave the program with a 7-6 record.
Coach Rocky Long and company now have three non-conference games set for 2015-16: at the California Golden Bears on Sept. 12, against USA on Sept. 19 and at the Penn State Nittany Lions on Sept. 26.
The team also now has four non-conference games set for 2016-17: at home against Cal on Sept. 10, at the Northern Illinois Huskies on Sept. 17, against the New Mexico State Aggies on Sept. 24 and at USA on Oct. 1.
