Boise State football: Jay Ajayi to announce NFL decision prior to Fiesta Bowl

The Broncos' star running back could be leaving Boise a year early. We'll know for sure in a couple weeks.

Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

Jay Ajayi, star running back for the Boise State Broncos, will announce whether or not he plans to enter the 2015 NFL Draft prior to the Fiesta Bowl.

The announcement came during a press conference with head coach Bryan Harsin on Wednesday, which you can watch below (the Ajayi question comes up around the 17:39 mark).

Harsin's official quote:

We need to really kinda hash all that out, but I think, you know, we'll let everybody know when it's the right time...We'll do it before the bowl game. We're not gonna do it after the bowl game and all that...When his decision is made, we'll let everybody know that, but it will be before the bowl game, before we get down there. Because that's an opportunity, regardless of what happens, for him to answer those questions, and to do it honestly.

Ajayi figures to be a top-ten running back prospect if he enters the draft. He finished his junior campaign with an eye-popping 1,689 yards and 25 touchdowns on 325 carries. He also proved extremely valuable in the passing game, racking up 536 yards and 4 touchdowns on 45 catches.

His performance did not go unnoticed by the national media; Ajayi has been hauling in awards left and right over the past week:

  • USA Today All-America second-team
  • Fox Sports All-America second-team
  • Sporting News All-America second-team
  • Associated Press All-America third-team
  • Athlon Sports All-America third-team
  • SI.com All-America honorable mention
  • Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award finalist
Should Ajayi leave, he would finish his Boise State career with a grand total of 3,662 rushing yards, 772 receiving yards, and 52 total touchdowns.
