Week 6 Mountain West football odds

Check out the early odds for the upcoming Mountain West games.

Paul Frederiksen-USA TODAY Sport

Week 6 of Mountain West play features a mix of conference and non-conference games. With games to be played lets take a look at the early odds of this weeks games, and some of even already changed quite a bit after being released.

First up is one of two games on this upcoming Friday night with San Diego State hosting Fresno State. This game opened with San Diego State being a favorite but since the Aztecs are starting true freshman Nick Bawden at quarterback the line changed to make Fresno State a favorite despite being just 1-3. Early pick is to go with San Diego State.

San Diego State (2-2) (0-2 A) W-1 -2.5
Fresno State (2-3) (1-1 H) W-2 -1

Up next BYU hosting Utah State and this line has already changed four points in favor of BYU in just a few short days. That could be due to that there is no clear cut answer as who will be starting at quarterback for Utah State. The line is approaching three touchdowns but this is the best defense that BYU has faced all year, so let's go with Utah State to at least cover.

Hawaii is making its second straight trip to the mainland by going to Texas. Rice was a formidable team last year but in 2014 they just won a single game so far this year after winning Conference USA last year with 10 wins. The long trip will be an issue for Hawaii and the six points seems a bit too much for Rice to cover. This might be a sucker bet but lets go with Hawaii covering, and maybe win.

Colorado State is taking its 3-1 record back home to take on a struggling Tulsa team that is just 1-3 record. With a win over Boston College in its pocket, the Rams are a huge two touchdown favorite. Tulsa is known for scoring points but this year they have been blown out. I'll go out on a limb to say my first indication is that Colorado State can cover.

There are a lot of big games this week and this could be the biggest of the rivalry games, and yes that includes Boise State vs. Nevada which is a pretty big rivalry game. Despite the Falcons big win over Boise State last week they are still a 4.5-point home underdog, and that is down one point after the line opened. With this being a huge rivalry and the first game for the Commander-in-Chief trophy this game will be close and the Falcons may not win but they will cover.

Navy (2-3) (2-0 A) L-2 -5.5 -4.5
Air Force (3-1) (2-0 H) W-2

This line opened huge at 20 points and has dropped to 18.5 even though UTSA has just one win on the year, but the schedule of Road Runners has been tough with games against Oklahoma State and Arizona but they also lost to Florida Atlantic last week. This is a tough one but if the Lobos go with Lamar Jordan then I can see the Lobos covering this game, but that is a real stretch, I know.

Seeing San Jose State being a little bit over a touchdown favorite over a struggling UNLV team is not a surprise, and with Joe Gray getting his second start for the Spartans there should be a jump in productions. With that, look for the Spartans to cover and win big.

The big rivalry game in conference is Boise State at Nevada -- yes, that will upset San Diego State vs. Fresno State fans -- and despite Boise State falling in embarrassing fashion to Air Force last week they are a 2.5-point road favorite. It is tough to say Boise State will win on the road at Nevada, but the Broncos are wanting a big win after the bad loss on the road to the Falcons. My early indication is to lean toward Nevada at the very least covering the small line of 2.5 points.
