For the second time in three years, San Diego State will travel to Hawaii, this time representing the Mountain West in the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational Championship Round. This year's field includes SDSU, BYU, Pittsburgh, Chaminade (the host), Arizona, Missouri, Kansas Sate and Purdue.
SDSU will play BYU in the opening round--another installment in the long history of the SDSU-BYU sports rivalry.
Another intriguing element for Aztec fans: the Aztecs and the Wildcats of Arizona are on opposite sides of the bracket, meaning they could potentially meet in the championship game. SDSU and Arizona have developed quite a rivalry, themselves, somewhat of a "Best in the West" rivalry with the latest meeting coming in the 2014 Sweet 16. The teams have played four times in the last three years. Arizona has won three, and all the games have been decided by an average of 4.75 points.
