According to the San Diego Union-Tribune's Stefanie Loh, San Diego State Head Coach Rocky Long has named junior transfer Donny Hageman the starting placekicker for Week One against Northern Arizona.
Hageman was a two-star recruit as a kicker at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, California. He knocked 19 of 20 field goal attempts through the uprights as a sophomore and tallied a total of 111 points. He flashed some of his potential at the Aztec Fan Fest Scrimmage when he made a 51-yard field goal attempt--sending field-goal-wary Aztec fans into a delightful frenzy.
Here are some of Hageman's highlights:
Hageman will start over junior kicker Seamus McMorrow, who sits second on the depth chart. McMorrow will handle kickoff duties, and his backup will be freshman kicker John Baron II. As he did last year, senior punter Joel Alesi will try to pin opponents within their 20-yard line all year long.
Fun thing about Alesi: both he and junior defensive back Pierre Romain found out five days ago that they would be awarded full athletic scholarships. Needless to say, they were pretty happy.
