MWC Top 50: No. 16 is Nevada DE Brock Hekking

We are counting down the top 50 players in the Mountain West this season and are currently at the No. 16 spot.

This summer the Mountain West Connection crew is counting down the top 50 players heading into the 2014 Mountain West season. Because the criteria is objective regarding who should be considered "the best," opinions are different for each person. It naturally follows, then, that the results on this list will vary; out of the 94 players who received votes, only 17 were consensus top 50 players, receiving votes from every panel member.

The No. 16 player on the countdown is Nevada defensive end Brock Hekking, and he really should be No. 1 based off of his wonderful mullet.

As for his on field success, Hekking has the chance to be one of the best linebackers in the Mountain West. Hekking is a playmaker who had 13.5 tackles for a loss and eight sacks and an interception. He is just a playmaker who can get to the ball and snuff out a play as soon as it is snapped. He is the hope for the Nevada defense which has been just awful the past few years, and if it is to be anything special they need Hekking to bring up the rest of the unit to a respectable level.
