San Jose State's Austin Lopez on Lou Groza Watch List

For you old timers out there Lou Groza brings back memories of the straight forward-kicking place kickers. He was the standard and the name sake for the award for the nations's top collegiate placekicker. Austin Lopez has done an excellent job for the Spartans ever since he was recruited out of Texas.

Honors are nothing new to Austin Lopez. He started his career at San Jose State as a true freshman in 2012 and was named a freshman AA by the FWAA. He was also a semifinalist on the Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Award for the same year.

You kick a lot of field goals to be considered for this award. A few highlights stick out in my mind. He tied a school record with four field goals against Navy in 2012 in a 12-0 victory. He is the second player in school history to score over 100 points in a season. He also tied a NCAA record by hitting on 23 straight field goal attempts. I could go on but you get the idea. He's good and he deserves the honor of being considered for the award.
