Geoff Grammar of the Albuquerque Journal has reported that former New Mexico standout Kendall Williams has agreed to a contract with Vuelle Basket Pesaro in the Italian A League. The terms of the contract have not been disclosed.
Williams, who ended his career as the all-time leader in assists for the Mountain West Conference, chose Italy over the NBA Development League. He felt the competition in Italy's A League will prepare him for the NBA better than the D-League, which also pays significantly less. Williams was a member of the Chicago Bulls Summer League team but saw very little playing time, averaging two points and one steal in 12 minutes per game.
Williams is already a projected starter on the team's website, though he is not willing to claim the position just yet. Williams said, "From what they've told me, they need a point guard to lead their team. It seems to me I'm going to have the opportunity to earn good minutes - if not the starting spot. I feel like I can help the team win."
Williams plans to leave for Italy in August, and the season starts in October.
