Three Mountain West players earn spot on Butkus Award Watch List

Over 50 players were selected  by a committee of Coaches, Analysts, Scouts, and more for the Butkus Award Watch List, given to College Football's top linebacker in the nation. Three MWC players saw their name on that list Monday morning, including Wyoming's Sonny Puletasi, Utah State's Kyler Fackrell, and Colorado State's Aaron Davis.

Davis was part of a dangerous LB corp in 2013 with Max Morgan and current Denver Bronco Shaquil Barrett that combined for 316 total tackles and 28.5 tackles for loss last season. He turned in a career-high 13 tackles in last year's loss to San Jose State, part of his 113 total tackles last year, good for 2nd on the team.

Along with Defensive End Eddie Yarbrough, expect Sonny Puletasi to make some noise coming off the ends in 2014. Puletasi had 47 total tackles with 10 of those resulting in a loss, with his best performance coming in the Cowboys loss to San Jose State, racking up a career-high nine tackles and three tackles for loss.

Finally, Utah State's Kyler Fackrell. He's already received a lot of notice this offseason, landing on the watch lists for the Nagurski, Bednarik, Lombardi, and now the Butkus Award. After a Freshman All-America season, Fackrell continued to have success causing havoc for QBs in 2013, recording 87 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, and three sacks.

These three represent a small part of the Butkus watch list, but a dominant season could not only lead their team to success, but raise their stock in the national spotlight.
