The Morning Hike, June 27, 2014

Welcome to The Morning Hike. This will be our daily links section and will also be used as an open thread for conversations. After the hike, we'll raccoon hunting with our air-rifles. Get your rabies shots beforehand.

THE NBA DRAFT WAS LAST NIGHT

In case you missed it, we had two Mountain West players selected: Cameron Bairstow and Xavier Thames.

It was the Chicago Bulls who selected Bairstow with the 49th pick.  The Bulls had picked up Doug McDermott in the first round, and Bulls fans over at Blog A Bull seem fairly mixed on the Lobos forward so far.

Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets traded to get Xavier Thames from the Raptors. Nets fans over on Nets Daily mostly seem to be genuinely excited for Thames although size might be an issue. Nevertheless, he's looking like he could be a good asset and will possibly be competing in Summer League.

The Mountain West has announced their TV lineup for Week 1 of the college football season.

5 games on the ESPN family of networks (yes, the SEC Network is part of that), 2 games on CBS Sports Network and one game each on Fox Sports 1 and ROOT Sports Rocky Mountain.  Lobovision will probably pick up UTEP-New Mexico and some local network in Reno will probably pick up SUU-Nevada.

THE UNLV BOWL BAN HAS BEEN LIFTED!

After recalculating and submitting an appeal to the NCAA, the postseason ban has gone away for the Rebels.  This means they have a very difficult task of going 7-6 this season (remember the 13th game with Houston).

It is Friday, ladies and gentlemen: wear your business casual, grab a tropical beverage and enjoy the summer!
