Louisiana Never Trails in Ousting San Diego State
The Ragin' Cajuns took all their frustrations out on the Aztecs. After losing 1-0 to Jackson State in the previous game, they had a lot of frustration. San Diego State's Bubba Derby lasted only 1 2/3 innings giving up 6 hits and 5 earned runs. The Aztecs didn't distinguish themselves in the field much either as they committed 3 errors although 7 of the 9 runs allowed were earned. I know that Louisiana is very good and I'm hoping the mid major juggernauts go far, but this quick exit by the Aztecs is painful for both the team and followers of the Mountain West.
Louisiana scored once in the first and 4 in the second to lead 5-0 and never trailed. They had 15 hits and were led by DH Blake Trahan who went 3 for 5 with an RBI, a run, and a stolen base. What? No extra base hits? The big catcha, Michael Strentz, took care of that. He went 2 for 5 with a home run and 3 RBIs. That was enough. Starting pitcher Carson Baranik went 6 1/3 innings and did just well enough to keep the hounds off the scent. He gave up 2 runs and got the win as reliever Matt Pitt finished the game. Ah, well, it's better than losing 2-1 on a walk off two run home run. Hmm, maybe not. I have always felt it's best to lose a close one than get whacked. I hate getting whacked even more than the shock of losing on the last pitch. I want the other team to know they were in a game. But this isn't about me.
San Diego State has a lot to be proud of and a lot to build on. I will be working on the future for MWC teams after a bit. Matt Hoffman can help me with them and I've contacts at all the other schools, too. Besides, the draft is coming up.
