UNLV has added Sun Belt power Arkansas State to the team's 2017 and 2018 schedule. The series will be a home-and-home with the first game being played in 2017 in Las Vegas with the return game at Jonesboro, Arkansas, for 2018; not dates have been announced.
Arkansas State has been to three straight bowl games, winning two of them, and have won the past three Sun Belt titles. Yet, the Red Wolves are on their fourth coach in four years as each coach who won the conference title in 2011, 2012 and 2013 have moved onto bigger and better jobs. Currently, the Arkansas State coach is Blake Anderson and even though he is in his first year there a lot can change in three years.
Adding Arkansas State to UNLV's schedule is a good opponent for the Rebels since the Red Wolves are, as of recently, a perennial bowl team and a conference power. This is a game that is against a decent opponent and one that should be winnable for UNLV, at home or on the road.
In 2017, UNLV has Idaho in addition to Arkansas State and in 2018 Arkansas State is the only team on the UNLV's non-conference schedule.
