Bronco Stadium to be named Joe Albertons' Stadium, per report

Boise State is expected to renname Bronco Stadium to Joe Albertsons' Stadium.

Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

At 10:30 a.m. local time in Boise, Idaho, the Boise State Broncos will have a new name for Bronco Stadium. The new name is to be Joe Albertons' Stadium, per KTVB channel 7 in Boise. The move to add naming rights to Broncos Stadium is to, obviously, increase revenue for the athletic department, but namely for the football team.

Slapping the Albertsons' name to Broncos Stadium will be the first time that the stadium will have a corporate sponsor. The field will still remain Lyle Smith Field.

As for who or what is Albertsons, it is a regional grocery chain that started in Boise and grew to be semi-national with chains in the Rocky Mountain region and eventually making its way all across the country to places like Texas, Florida, South Dakota, Oklahoma and more.

The company had to close a lot of stores outside of the Rocky Mountain and West Coast regions, but the company is back on the uptick with the acquisitions of hundreds of stores from Minnesota-based Supervalu, and there is also a proposed merger with Safeway.

The terms were not disclosed and there is a good chance they will not be known even once the announcement is made official.
