San Jose State football final spring dept chart; quarterback battle will head into spring

San Jose State released their final spring depth chart and the quarterback position is still up in the air.

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

San Jose State has released their final spring depth chart and nearly every position has a clear starter. On offense the quarterback position is not one of those spots that has been solidified. The race to replace David Fales will continue into fall camp, and as of spring practice it is Blake Jurich or Joe Gray who will be slinging the ball for the Spartans this fall.

Gray looked to have an inside track after strong performances in scrimmages, but Jurich made a late push in spring to be in serious contention to be the starting quarterback.

The running back position also has no clear starter and the two in the running are Thomas Tucker and Jarrod Lawson. The Spartans need their running game to be more consistent than last year and if it takes more than one back to be a better running team that is fine.

The wide receiver position has a surprise per Jimmy Durkin of the San Jose Mercury News:

The biggest surprise is that Tim Crawley is listed ahead of Tyler Ervin for that slot receiver spot. Ervin got quite a few more reps at the position than Crawley in the spring, but obviously the coaches have seen Crawley in the games.

Take a look at the depth chart:
