CBI Recap: Fresno State Uses Second Half Surge to Down UTEP

The Bulldogs raised their game after halftime to escape El Paso with a hard-fought win.

Cezar Guerrero and Marvelle Harris scored 19 and 14 points, respectively, as the Fresno State Bulldogs (18-16) defeated the UTEP Miners (23-11) by a 61-56 score on Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs had built their late-season surge on the strength of improved defense, and that team effort made a return in holding UTEP to just 35% from the floor. John Bohannon led the home team with 18 points, brought down seven rebounds and blocked four shots. Julian Washburn chipped in with 14 points of his own, but that came on just 5-of-17 shooting and includes three missed field goals in the last six minutes.

Following their return from Texas, Fresno State will play the host for their second round CBI matchup against the Princeton Tigers next Monday. Stay tuned to Mountain West Connection for all of the conference's postseason coverage!
