This was not a good time for the Rams to lose a big man. Starting center Gerson Santo has been lost for the season with a broken hand. He was injured during the first half against Wyoming when his hand was smashed. This is a time when the Rams need him more than ever due to an impending match up against Utah State in the upcoming Mountain West tourament where their physical big men have given the Rams fits this season. The only big man they have left is junior Marcus Holt, but head coach Larry Eustachy may choose to play small which will bring a speed component to the game to limit Utah State's size advantage.
The recovery time is expected to be about six weeks which means his college basketball career is over. Colorado State will take on Utah State on Wednesday in the opening round of the Mountain West Tournament.
