The Nevada Wolf Pack had a 30-24 lead at the half but the Wolf Pack's offensive woes reappeared in the second half as the Golden Bears, led by Cal guard Tyrone Wallace's 29 points, went on a 17-6 scoring run to defeat the Wolf Pack and hand the Pack their sixth straight loss.
Of the 29 points Wallace scored, 26 came in the second half as he went 11-20 from the field and chipped in eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block. Wolf Pack head coach David Carter said that "Wallace really took over the game. He really was the difference."
Nevada's defense held the Golden Bears to just 25% shooting from the field in the first half but California's move to a four guard line up in order to spread the court, gave the Wolf Pack defense problems and the Golden Bears shot 52% from the field in the second half as the Pack could not stop Wallace in the second half as he and David Kravish were the only Golden Bear players who scored in double figures as Kravish scored 11 points and had six rebounds.
For the Wolf Pack, the offensive struggles continue to be a problem as the Wolf Pack have been unable to play a full forty minute game during the current losing streak. Nevada shot only 33 percent from the field for the game and missed its first eight field goal attempts to start the second half and to close out the game, the Pack missed the last six shots as the Pack have failed to crack the sixty point barrier in the last six games. AJ West was the leading scorer with 13 points and six rebounds but the top two scorers for the Pack, DJ Fenner and Marqueze Coleman struggled this afternoon. Fenner and Coleman combined for eight points in 62 minutes of basketball and no other Wolf Pack player scored in double figures. The Pack also missed critical free throws at the end of the game and only went 19-27 from the charity stripe.
Carter said of the Wolf Pack's offensive struggles: "We get stops, we get pretty good looks and we come up empty. Carter also added that " It's not like the defense is coming down and doing something different to take away out offense. We're settling for shots where we should be drive it at times or missing easy ones at times. It comes down to making shots."
The Wolf Pack will have five days off to get their issues corrected as their prepare for the Cal State Fullerton Titans at Lawlor Events Center at 7 pm PST.
