Well, it looks as though the jolly man up north delivered an early gift to the Fresno State Bulldogs Wednesday night. In a much needed win, Fresno State slid past UC Irvine by a score of 72-63. Paul Watson led the way for the Bulldogs, scoring 23 points followed by forward Karichi Edo with 21. Fresno State absolutely needed this game.
Falling to 1-7 so close to Mountain West conference play would basically be a death sentence. But now, Fresno is 2-6, and their next game is away when they travel to square off against the Road Runners of CSU Bakersfield. Fresno State's three point shooting and free throws need work, going just 3-11 from beyond the arc and 21-32 from the line.
For a team that only scores 58 points per game, 72 is very impressive. Everything just seemed to go the Bulldogs way. The Anteaters had many offensive woes to mention. 6-20 from beyond the arc and 11-20 from the line. One thing that seemed to be a positive for UC Irvine was offensive and defensive rebounding, outscoring the Bulldogs in that category 44-41.
Who am I to predict what the Bulldogs will do next? A team in the Mountain West football Championship may have inspired the hoops team.
