The Nevada Wolf Pack defeated the Northwest Christian Beacons on Sunday afternoon by a score of 81-67.In the game, the Wolf Pack never trailed in the game and close out the non conference part of the schedule on a two game winning streak.
The Wolf Pack had four players score in double figures and of those four, three were starters. Junior guard DJ Fenner led all Wolf Pack scorers with 18 points, forward AJ West scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds despite a slow start and Michael Perez scored 13 points and went 3-7 from three point range in his forty-fourth consecutive start.
The Wolf Pack were up by as many as twenty eight points but the Beacons cut the lead down to nine points in the second half after Northwest Christian forward Austin Kuemper hit back to back three pointers to get the lead down to single digits but the Wolf Pack went on a 5-0 scoring run to finally close out the Beacons for the win. The Beacons were able to get back into the game in part because of the Wolf Pack's lack of focus on defense leaving Beacon players wide open for uncontested shots. The Wolf Pack were also unfocused on offense as well as there were several unforced turnovers and poor execution on offense led to the Wolf Pack lead being cut down to single digits.
If the Wolf Pack want to win their third straight game, they need to shore up their defense and execute better on offense especially in the half court. The Wolf Pack open up Mountain West conference against Air Force on Saturday at 3pm.
