For their final non conference game of the 2014-2015 regular season, the Nevada Wolf Pack will welcome the Northwestern Christian Beacons, who play in the NAIA, on Sunday afternoon at the Lawlor Events Center.
The Wolf Pack(3-8) are coming off a 83-55 victory over Marshall on Monday night to end their eight game losing streak. And a big reason for the victory was the performance of junior forward AJ West. West led all Wolf Pack scorers with 16 points and grabbed ten rebounds on Monday. The Wolf Pack also got contributions from Marqueze Coleman and Michael Perez as both players scored in double figures in the win against the Thundering Herd.
When asked how much his team needed the win, Wolf Pack coach David Carter said "Bad, "and not just the win but how we won. it helps a lot. It showed character, coming off a eight game losing streak."
The Wolf Pack are trying to parlay that victory over Marshall into another win against the Beacons before facing Air Force to begin Mountain West conference play on January 3rd.
The Beacons come into the contest 9-3 and are winners of seven of their last eight games including a 83-68 win over The Evergreen State College on December 20th. For the Beacons, 6-7 forward Jay Mayernik is the team's leading scorer averaging 15 points per game and also leads the team in rebounds averaging seven a game.
Offensively, the Beacons are a very balanced scoring team as they have five player who are currently averaging double figures in scoring. The Wolf Pack are going to need to lean on their defense to contain the balanced attack of Northwest Chrisitan in order to come away with the victory.
Tip off will be at 3:05pm and will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
