Game preview: Aztecs close non-conference slate against the Hawks

What to watch for: Who will emerge as SDSU's sixth man?

When Dwayne Polee II collapsed in the first half against UC Riverside last Monday, the Aztecs lost their 2013-14 Mountain West Sixth Man of the Year for the foreseeable future (Polee attended practice last night, but has not been cleared for basketball activity). That means freshman Kevin Zabo, sophomores Dakarai Allen and D'Erryl Williams, redshirt-sophomore Matt Shrigley, and junior Angelo Chol will form Steve Fisher's bench for this game and at least the beginning of conference play.

So who will become that sixth man? Who will become that leader of the second unit? Allen has shown some incredible defensive skills this year, but his offensive game is hardly a threat. Williams and Zabo share back-up point guard duties, with Williams as the better defender and Zabo the better scorer. Shrigley is an experienced veteran and is supposed to be the team's sharpshooter, but his 25-percent clip from long range says otherwise. Chol is a dominant force on both sides of the ball, but he struggles to stay out of early foul trouble.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
