San Diego State placekicker Donny Hageman had been "the guy" all year. He revived a kicking unit that made just 50 percent of field goals last season and set an SDSU single-season record with 20 field goals.
But he won't sleep very well tonight, as he missed the potential game-winning 34-yard field goal with 20 seconds left after making his first three attempts of the night, and the Navy Midshipmen beat the Aztecs 17-16.
SDSU's Donnel Pumphrey set SDSU's single-season rushing record tonight, gaining 112 yards to get his final season total to 1,877 yards. Chase Price added 69 yards on 11 carries.
SDSU's passing game looked rough all night, with Quinn Kaehler completing just 11-27 for 141 yards and two interceptions (his receivers didn't help him much, either).
There's definitely an argument that SDSU should have never been in this situation. Hageman and SDSU had an opportunity to go up 19-14 with 8:45 left in the game, but Rocky Long elected to go for it on fourth down and five from Navy's 12-yard line. Kaehler's pass was incomplete, and Navy took over down two instead of five.
