Reports have previously surfaced about who new UNLV head coach Tony Sanchez would add to his staff, and Tuesday afternoon some names have been announced. Sanchez mentioned in his introductory press conference that he would fill out his staff with college coaches.
He is bringing on Nebraska offensive line coaches John Garrison and Barney Cotton. Cotton will serve as offensive coordinator and Garrison will be the offensive line coach for the Rebels. Both of these coaches will not join UNLV until after Nebraska's bowl game.
The Rebels will retain wide receivers coach Cedric Cormier, and that seems like an obvious choice since that position has been one of the strengths at UNLV over the past few seasons. Plus, he is a great recruiter and brought in Devante Davis and Tim Cornett.
Other hires include Sanchez bringing on Bishop Gorman's Ron O'Dell to coach the quarterbacks. He did coach Aaron Rodgers in high school and also previously coached quarterbacks coach at Illinois.
Sanchez also is bringing in Keith Belton to be the strength and conditioning coach, he previously was the assistant strength coach at USC.
The defensive coaches are expected to be announced on Friday, and per Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, that coach will be an outside hire. That makes sense since the Rebels defense was 11th this past year.
