What to watch for: Another tough point guard for SDSU to face
Senior Long Beach State point guard Mike Caffey is quietly putting up incredible numbers, averaging 17.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game while shooting over 50 percent from the field and over 46 percent from long range.
"We're playing a very good Long Beach State team (on Wednesday) led by the best point guard that we've played so far in Mike Caffey," head coach Steve Fisher said Tuesday. "He's their ring leader. This is a good team. They're battle-tested obviously if you look at who they've played. This should be a good game."
This will mark the third consecutive game that SDSU has matched up against a top-notch point guard: San Diego's Johnny Dee, Washington's Nigel Williams-Goss and now Caffey. Aqeel Quinn, SDSU's best perimeter defender, missed the first two matchups and will miss today's with a broken finger he sustained during the Maui Invitational.
