San Diego State Basketball: Freshman Trey Kell to start at point guard against Point Loma Nazarene

After much speculation, the answer finally comes out.

Today, San Diego State assistant basketball coach Brian Dutcher told The Mighty 1090 AM's "Darren Smith Show" that freshman Trey Kell will start at point guard in tomorrow night's exhibition game against Point Loma Nazarene. He also said that Winston Shepard, Dwayne Polee II, J.J. O'Brien and Skylar Spencer will start -- no surprise, there.

This revelation ends weeks of speculation among SDSU writers and fans alike as to what the Aztecs' opening starting lineup would be. All but one SDSU writer on Mountain West Connection predicted freshman Kevin Zabo would start instead of Kell. The one exception predicted Aqeel Quinn would start.

Now, this doesn't mean as much as some might think. Steve Fisher has said on several occasions that his starting lineup will change throughout the year. But, as Mountain West Connection's Rafael Avitabile wrote earlier today, "It still means something. Come game one, the head coach is going to put out the five players that he thinks are the most ready."

The U-T San Diego's Mark Zeigler also tweeted that Zabo and Quinn have played with the first unit during the preseason practices. Zeigler did not, however, mention D'Erryl Williams, SDSU's fourth point guard.
