College Football Playoff Committee Rankings: What Group of Five team has the edge?

The second set of College Football Playoff rankings are out, and what Group of Five team has the advantage now that East Carolina lost?

Lance Iversen-USA TODAY Sports

The weekly College Football Playoff rankings is a made-for-television event that will change each week, and likely make a huge change after conference title games. However, for the Group of Five teams it is a good measuring stick of what team has the edge to make it to a lucrative New Year's Day Bowl.

East Carolina falling to Temple opens the door wide open for an undefeated Marshall, Mountain West leading Boise State and Colorado State. The Pirates are not out of it since they still can win the American and remember conference title's are required.

Here is the pecking order for the Group of Five teams:

1. Marshall: Because they are undefeated and that should matter

2. Boise State: Their two loses are to Ole Miss who is in the top 12 and Air Force is going bowling and could win as many eight games.

3. East Carolina: They have to first win the American and make up for a bad loss to Temple. It would help if Boise State slips up.

4. Colorado State: The Rams need help since a conference title is required, yet they are likely the best of the bunch.

5. There is no other team in the running.

Here are the rankings and as you notice there is no Group of Five team is in the mix and these bowl projections add Ole Miss to take that spot for the time being.
