Mountain West Basketball: San Diego State is the only MW team in ESPN's preseason projected 2015 NCAA Tournament bracket

Mountain West fans have long had issues with Joe Lunardi's selections. That probably won't change any time soon.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Today ESPN's Joe Lunardi released his preseason projected 2015 NCAA Tournament field, or "bracketology."

He listed San Diego State as a 4-seed in the West region, opening up tourney action against New Mexico State. The Aztecs would then face either Iowa State or Louisiana Tech before most likely facing Arizona in a Sweet 16 rematch. If SDSU would get past the Wildcats, Steve Fisher and company would probably play Wichita State, Virginia or Nebraska in the Elite Eight.

Lunardi didn't predict any other MW team would make the Big Dance. No MW team was even listed among the 16 teams that would be "on the bubble."

Lunardi's predictions come just days after USA Today writers projected SDSU and UNLV would make the 2015 NCAA Tournament.

SDSU is the definite favorite this year in the MW -- few argue that. But that second spot is up for grabs among at least five teams: UNLV, UNM, Colorado State, Boise State and Wyoming.

Eight teams from the ACC and eight teams from the Big 10 made Lunardi's projected bracket. The Big 12 had the second-most teams selected with seven, and the Pac-12 came in third with six teams in the projected tourney field.
