CSU vs San Jose State Preview: Can the Rams Keep It Going

CSU takes on a San Jose State team that has won three consecutive meetings. Can they snap the streak and join the top 25?

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado State Rams are right on the outside of the top 25 rankings, and with a win they could most certainly join the ranks with Louisville losing this week. Along with potential losses for other teams in the top 25. Today's game will not be easy though with a San Jose State team that has a pretty good defense. Also the Spartans have beaten the Rams three years straight including twice on the road. An explosive offense against a good defense will be interesting to see which one will be able to impose their will.

Weather: Mid 60's with a 40% chance of rain

Line: CSU - 6.5

TV/Radio: CBS Sports Network, 102.3/105.5 ESPN Radio Denver/KLIV 1590 AM San Jose

Weather could play a factor in this game if the rain gets heavy. The running game for the Rams would likely play a bigger role in the game if that is the case. The passing game will get theirs with Garrett Grayson and Rashard Higgins leading the charge but the Rams will likely need good games from Joe Hansley, and Charles Lovett since the Spartans will like focus on Higgins. Dee Hart and Treyous Jerrells will play big parts for the Rams in the run game so they could open up the pass. If the offensive line can hold up and control the line of scrimmage the Rams will come away with the win.

San Jose State is ranked 22nd in total defense allowing only 336 yards per game. In conference play each opponent has been held to a season low in total yards. However only Nevada is the closest to CSU when it comes to offensive explosiveness that the Spartans have played in conference play. The Wolfpack still came away with a 21-10 win as well. The Spartans for the most part rely on their defense since they don't score a lot of points. The only way they come away with a win is if they turn it to a low scoring defensive battle. The game needs to be in the 20s or less.

Prediction: Colorado State 31 - San Jose State 17; The Rams are too explosive and the Spartans haven't beaten a team with a winning record all season. Colorado State will control the game and I see Grayson have an efficient game along with the running game.
