2014 Boise State football recruiting: Broncos land JUCO QB Tommy Stuart

Boise State got some quarterback help when Butte (Calif.) College Tommy Stuart decided to sign and enroll early.

Quarterback became a priority for Boise State when Nick Patti decided to leave the program, and that left the Broncos in a tough spot with their backup quarterback for the upcoming season. Over the weekend, Boise State had many players visit and the big get was junior college quarterback Tommy Stuart.

Stuart played one year at Butte (Calif.) College and led his team to the California state title, and also the team was named as co-national champions.

He completed 65 of his passes for 1,927 yards with 29 touchdowns and just three interceptions; all while playing in a run-heavy attack. He also rushed for 153 yards.

Being a freshman means that the 6-foot-1-inch, 190-pound signal caller has four years to play three, so he still can redshirt if that becomes an option. Stuart is enrolling in school and can participate in spring ball giving him a leg up on trying to earn the back up role behind Grant Hedrick.

Stuart only talked a little bit about his trip, and saying that everything is starting to go as planned:

"It's been a journey," Stuart said. "I was undersized in high school ... and nobody gave me a look. It all seemed to work out for me now."

Stuart would not say whether he has been offered a scholarship or is coming to Boise State as a walk-on.

"I'm not allowed to talk about that right now," he said.

The latter of being offered a scholarship or a walk-on and not being able to discuss that seems odd. If Stuart was offered a scholarship then that would give the Broncos three scholarship and four total quarterbacks. However, on his Rivals and Scout profile it says he has an offer and that typically means a scholarship offer was given.

Here is Stuart with offensive coordinator Mike Sanford.
