Boise State loses one Florida player currently on its roster but adds another to their 2014 class

In a surprising turn of events the Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Boise State backup quarterback Nick Patti has been granted a release from Boise State. The former Dr. Phillips High School quarterback will be transferring before the start of the spring semester.

The news was confirmed by Patti’s father, Ed Patti, but he refused to comment further on his son’s situation or future plans. One possibility is that he will transfer to a Florida school. Patti, 5-10, 200 lbs, was a Broncos recruit in the 2012 class and had offers from both UCF and USF of the American Conference before committing to Boise State. Ed Patti recently had asked Boise State for permission to talk to UCF on behalf of his son and that the permission had been granted. But wherever Nick Patti transfers he will almost certainly be required to sit out a year before his eligibility is restored.

The former Dr. Phillips star quarterback had a dazzling career in high school but has had mixed success since his arrival at Boise State. He arrived on campus at the start of the spring semester in 2012 and immediately battled Joe Southwick and Grant Hedrick for the starting job. He ended up redshirting but played sparingly this past season as the backup after Southwick was injured and Hedrick took over as the starter. Even then he was underused and after appearing in 6 games he had only completed 8-of-11 passes for 63 yards and ran on just 4 plays for 19 yards in limited field exposure.

On the recruiting front Boise State has added another commit to their 2014 class: DE Derrick Boles. Boles, 6-3, 254 lbs, is a big, weakside defensive end out of Lakeland HS, Lakeland, Florida.

The fourteen confirmed commitments to Boise State in the 2014 class:
