2014 Wyoming football recruiting: Cowboys land commitment from QB Aaron Young

Wyoming earned a commitment from JUCO quarterback Aaron Young.

The Wyoming Cowboys were quarterback strapped when Brett Smith announced he was leaving for the NFL Draft, and most recently Jason Thompson decided to transfer to Utah. Some good fortune has come Wyoming's way when they received a verbal commit from Aaron Young who spent one year at ASA College.

In his one year of junior college, Young threw for 1,803 yards with 22 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He is still quite raw as he started just one year of high school football.

The 6-foot-1 California native tried to get in touch with the new Wyoming coaching staff for weeks since they he knew they were in need of a new quarterback, but was unable to do so.

Then he sent in his tape to offensive coordinator Brent Vigen through Facebook Wednesday night, and then he received a phone call on Thursday. Later that day he spoke to head coach Craig Bohl where an offer was extended and accepted by Young.

Young feels slighted by the California schools since none extended an offer, and now that he has a chance to go against three of them while in the Mountain West:

"I didn't really get any offers out of high school. I had to go the JC route, which was a little challenging," Young said. "It was sometimes deflating. But playing in the Mountain West is a dream of mine, to play in front of my family almost week in and week out.

"I kind of have a chip on my shoulder when I think about playing San Jose State, San Diego State and Fresno State - all the teams that kind of turned their back on me out of high school. Now I have a chance to beat all three of those teams three years in a row."

Young is enrolling immediately at Wyoming and will partake in spring practice which will put him on equal footing with Tommy Thonton and ahead of incoming freshman Austin Fort. He is a pro-style quarterback and would fit Bohl's offensive system at Wyoming.

Here are his highlights over at Hudl, and most likely these are what Young sent to the Wyoming staff. The only concern is that Young never took a trip to Laramie, Wyo., and only did some research on the Internet.
