The 2014 NCAA tournament is shaping up very similar to 2013 for the San Diego State Aztecs. Last season, the Aztecs defeated Oklahoma in the first round and were given a gift, or was thought to be a gift at the time, when they were to play No. 15 seeded Florida Gulf Coast. San Diego State was outdone by Dunk City and failed to make it to the Sweet 16.
San Diego State now gets to take on another upset minded team in No. 12 North Dakota State who upset the No. 5 seeded Oklahoma Sooners, 80-75.
Now here is a closer look at North Dakota State.
Conference: Summit
Record: 25-6 (12-2)
RPI: 33
BPI: 64
KenPom: 53
PPG: 76 per game
The leading scorer for the Bison are Taylor Braun who leads the team in scoring with 18 points per game, and is one of four players who score 10 or more points per game. North Dakota State can make things interesting for San Diego State as the Bison like to run and score a lot of points, and that is something that the Aztecs struggle to do.
The Aztecs have a good defense to slow teams down, but their offense is inconsistent and at times can disappear. That is where North Dakota State can take advantage, and if this game gets into a track meet that would favor the Bison.
