The Fresno State Bulldogs are making their second straight Mountain West title game and it was a struggle for Fresno State to make it back to this game. Losing multiple players to the NFL like Derek Carr, Davante Adams, Isaiah Burse and others made a return trip to the conference title game seem like a tough task, and it was.
Fresno State had a tough non-conference slate which saw the Bulldogs go 1-3 in and also have conference loses to UNLV, Boise State and Wyoming; but despite finishing 6-6 on the year the Bulldogs are back in the conference title game. Fresno State has looked better the past few weeks on offense and are riding a three-game winning streak. Fresno State topped Hawaii Saturday afternoon, 28-21, to win the West Division.
Boise State earned its spot in the Mountain West title game after easily taking care of Utah State to win the Mountain Division. The Broncos played its second consecutive complete game in an easier than expected win over the Aggies. Broncos running back Jay Ajayi did a great job by scoring three first half touchdowns as Boise State raced out to a 34-12 lead, and they never looked back, winning 50-19. Ajayi ended tying a school record with five touchdowns and rushed for 229 yards.
Boise State is now in position if they can defeat Fresno State they likely will be headed to a New Year's Day bowl game.
This game will be a rematch which saw Fresno State play very well but ended up losing 37-27 to Boise State back on Oct. 17, and once again be played at the home of Boise State.
