This Friday the San Diego Aztecs will visit the New Mexico Lobos in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This will be the Lobos second Friday game, as well as the second game televised by ESPN. Last week the Lobos beat the University of Texas San Antonio for their second win of the season. The three reasons the Lobs will beat the Aztecs are:
1. Nick Bawden: The freshman quarterback had a terrible outing against Fresno State completing 9 0f 24 passes for 84 yards and one touchdown. He also threw two interceptions and was sacked twice during the game. He completed 37. Percent of his passes and had a whopping QBR of 7.5. The Lobos defense looked better last week sacking UTSA quarterbacks five times and had two interceptions that they converted to 14 points. The game will be close and the freshman quarterback will be forced to make big plays. Look for the Lobos to pressure Bawden forcing him to make mistakes ultimately costing the Aztecs the game.
2. Lamar Jordan: On Monday Bob Davie asked Lobo fans not to anoint Jordan, but if not now when? He has led the Lobos to comeback wins against New Mexico State and UTSA. In both games he made clutch plays to secure the wins. In his short time at New Mexico he has shown why he was recruited to play at a top tier program like Arkansas. Jordan’s will start this week and the added snaps will be trouble for the Aztecs as Jordan can run or pass and has shown no matter what the play call is he can turn it in to a big play.
3. Mike Locksley: Lobos fans are still angry about the Locksley era, three wins in as many years and millions of dollars of lost salary what’s not to hate. So why will this help the Lobos? Everyone forgets who is really responsible for Locksley. It was Rocky Long that left the Lobos after a 4-8 because he was not happy with Lobo fans criticism of the 2008 season, and he felt he did as much as he could with his alma mater.. Long leaving inexpertly forced Paul Krebs to higher Locksley, that caused the demise of the Lobo program, Bob Davie is now here and the Lobos are in good shape but the anger over Rocky Long abandon New Mexico will be the extra push the Lobos need to win.
