Aqeel Quinn scored 20 points and the San Diego State Aztecs (21-6, 11-3 Mountain West) will fly home from Albuquerque tonight with a 63-46 win against the New Mexico Lobos (14-12, 6-8 MW).
Malik Pope also looked like the first-round pick he's projected to be (SDSU fans hope to have him one more year) with his 16 points, and he led an SDSU bench that outscored UNM's reserves 27-12.
The Aztecs never trailed in this game and had their largest lead (20 points) with 59 seconds to go.
One of the biggest keys to an SDSU victory was to shut down Hugh Greenwood, and it did a decent job of that. The senior Lobo scored 12 points on 5-13 shooting.
Obit Aget kept UNM remotely in the game until the waning moments with his tenacity on the boards, grabbing nine of his team's 36 rebounds. The Lobos vastly out-rebounded SDSU on the offensive glass (19-12), but their 30.9 shooting percentage spelled their ultimate doom.
UNM has its first five-game losing streak since 2007.
SDSU next travels to play the San Jose State Spartans (2-22, 0-12 MW) at 7 p.m. PST this Saturday.
UNM next hosts the UNLV Runnin' Rebels (14-11, 5-7 MW) this Saturday at 3 p.m. PST.
