Utah State is on an emotional high after a buzzer-beating win against Boise State this past Saturday. Now the Aggies will finish up their road trip at Fresno State in hopes of getting off to a 3-0 start in conference. The team has been hot lately, winning three straight games and six of their last seven. They have also remained competitive in games this season, with their largest loss this season being a 10 point loss to BYU.
One of the biggest keys to the game will be rebounding. They have been severely out-rebounded in most of their games this season and it has come back to bite them. They are ranked near the bottom of all of college basketball in rebounds per game and it has led to several second chance points for opponents. If the Aggies want to keep the magic going, they will have to crash the boards and win the rebounding battle.
Another big key to the game will be shot selection. It seems at times that the team is forcing shots during possessions. Even though the team shoots a reasonable field goal percentage and 3-point shooting percentage, their possessions have been somewhat quick at times. Look for them to try and slow the pace a little bit and play Morrill's brand of basketball.
One thing that the Aggies currently have going for them right now is momentum. As mentioned above, the team is on a roll, winning six of their last seven games. It is also impressive that the team has been able to come back from big margins and win and their ability to stay in games. They are giving themselves chances at the end of games, which can prove huge down the stretch. Utah State is currently one of two teams (Wyoming) in conference that have undefeated records through 2 games in conference play. This should give the team more motivation to get a win on Tuesday.
Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. MT and the game will be televised on ROOT Sports.
