What to watch for: If SDSU wins, will it win decisively?
Associated Press No. 23 Northern Iowa lost two days ago to Evansville. No. 25 Georgetown lost a few days ago at Xavier. No. 21 Washington just fell to the California Golden Bears. And No. 20 Ohio State lost earlier this week to Iowa. SDSU, currently ranked No. 28 in the AP poll, could benefit greatly from these four losses and jump back into the top 25 if it can beat Fresno State handily tonight.
But that's not even close to a guarantee. First of all, while the Bulldogs are 5-9, they have four players averaging more points per game than SDSU's leading scorer, Winston Shepard, who scores just 10.7 points per game.
Also, like they are against Fresno State, the Aztecs were big-time favorites in their MW opener against Air Force. But that game turned into a nail-biter, as SDSU blew a 19-point first-half lead and barely scraped out a 53-49 victory thanks to some costly late turnovers from the Falcons.
