The Mountain West has announced that Air Force freshman guard Matt Mooney and Colorado State senior forward J.J. Avila have been suspended for one game. The two got tangled up and Mooney is suspended for striking an opponent which carries an automatic one-game suspension, and he will miss the Falcons Jan. 14 game at New Mexico.
Avila is suspended for physical abuse of an opponent, as well as actions which either provoked conflict or involved retaliation. Again, a NCAA penalty which carries a one-game suspension, and he will be out on Jan. 14 against Nevada who is currently 2-1 in conference play. Losing Avila is a big deal for Colorado State as he leads the team in scoring (15.2), rebounding (7.5), assists (3.3) and steals (1.9).
Here is the video of what got the pair suspended for their next game.
That fight did cause a 20-minute delay, but ultimately Colorado State won the game, 92-87.
