2014-15 Mountain West basketball media predictions: San Diego State pegged to win title

San Diego State earned all but one first-place vote as they were projected by the media to win the Mountain West this year.

The media poll for the upcoming Mountain West basketball season was released Tuesday morning, and to the surprise of no one the San Diego State Aztecs are selected to win the league. The one surprise is that the Boise State Broncos earned one first place vote and that kept the Aztecs from being a unanimous choice.

New Mexico comes in at third and that will probably irk some people due to the amount of talent the Lobos lost from last years team that won 27 games and was the Mountain West tournament champions. A lot of respect is given to the Lobos to rebuild and be a contender this season.

Boise State should be seen as s contender to San Diego State with eight returning players which includes a trio of starters in senior forward Anthony Drmic and senior guards Derrick Marks and Igor Hadziomerovic

Second through sixth place was separated by just 119 points and that should give an early example of how the Mountain West should be a well-balanced and exciting league once conference play gets underway.

As a reminder, San Jose State is not eligible for the Mountain West tournament due to low APR numbers, and it is not too much of a surprise to see them pegged to finish at the bottom.
