Recap
Air Force lost the game. Nevada had to pull out the win with a gutsy performance, but Air Force lost. Up 12 with five minutes to play, the Falcons allowed Cody Fajardo to lead the Wolf Pack to the improbable victory. Air Force had opportunites to put the game away, but mental mistakes by the Falcons gave the game to the Wolf Pack.
Throughout the game Nevada was unable to stop Air Force on the ground and Air Force couldn't stop Nevada through the air. The Falcons ran for 375 yards on the ground primarily with their triple option offense. Their quarterback Karson Roberts ran for 161 yards and two touchdowns and ran the offense perfectly in replacement of Jaleel Awini, who was suspended with an honor code violation. For Nevada, Fajardo threw for 389 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for 81. Defense was non-existent in this game for both teams, which led to the back and fourth shoot out.
The biggest moment of the game was when the Falcons got two straight illegal substitution penalties on 3rd and 1 and then 3rd and 6 with roughly four minutes to go, up five. After those penalties Roberts hit a wide-open receiver on a pass that would have gotten a first down and locked up the game for Air Force, but the pass was dropped. Nevada then drove down the field and finished the drive with a Fajardo run, putting the Wolf Pack up 45-42 for good.
