The Colorado St. Rams earned some good news after Wednesday's practice on the injury front, plus there was some bad news dolled out as well. Starting with the good news is that starting running back Donnell Alexander and is likely to play on Saturday afternoon against Cal Poly.
"Probable, Donnell will play," Jim McElwain said after practice Wednesday. "Unless unforeseen something happens; he falls on it tomorrow. He'll play."
This is good news for the Colorado State offense and now their running attack will be one of the deepest in the Mountain West. Chris Nwoke and Kapri Bibbs have stepped up nicely as Alexander has missed time due to a broken hand he suffered in the first half against Colorado.
Bibbs has been the bright star with two touchdowns and 153 yards, while Nwoke does have 103 yards and a score with 97 of those coming agist Tulsa. With Colorado State having a stable of running backs, McElwain said that he will go with the hot hand in the running attack this week against Cal Poly.
The bad injury news is that Colorado State is still likely going to be without wide receivers Charles Lovett and Joe Hansley. Lovett suffered a knee contusion back on Aug. 20 in fall camp, and Hansley injured his left ankle in the season opener against Colorado. The Rams could also be without redshirt freshman Jordon Vaden who is suffering from a deep thigh bruise. With those three likely out, Colorado State may have to burn the redshirts of freshmen Sammie Long and Xavier Williams.
McElwain will make the decision about redshirts after he reviews the practice tapes this week.
