UNLV vs. Minnesota halftime score: Gophers lead Rebels, 16-13

UNLV is looking good so far in their first half against Minnesota, despite trailing.

Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

The UNLV Rebels are off to a solid start against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, but despite playing well they are trailing 16-13 at the half. Minnesota scored the go ahead touchdown late in the half as they drove down the field 39 yards on 10 plays. The Rebels had a chance at an interception in the waning moments of the half but the tipped pass was dropped.

Minnesota took advantage of that and scored on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Philip Nelson to Maxx Williams to put them up at the half. With that touchdown late in the half it almost seals the deal for a Gopher win since they are 7-0 under head coach Jerry Kill when leading at the half. Phillips also burned the Rebels defense when he scored on a 48-yard touchdown run, and he has two scores so far.

The UNLV offense has been doing fairly well and has been led by sophomore quarterback Nick Sherry who has completed 18 of 26 yards for 131 yards and a touchdown. Running back Tim Cornett also is having a solid game with 46 yards on 10 carries. Wide receiver Devante Davis has seven receptions for 80 yards and a score. The playmakers for the Rebels are doing what they came to do and they need to keep it up.

The defense needs to keep making plays to help keep UNLV in this game, and give the offense a chance to pull off a win. They do have an interception when Tajh Hasson picked off Nelson in the red zone. UNLV is also 3 for 3 on fourth down so far.

My only recommendation is that UNLV needs to feed the ball to Cornett more often to get him rolling.
