2013 Mountain West player rankings: No. 1: Fresno State QB Derek Carr

The 50 player countdown to the start of the 2013 college football season continues with the No. 1 spot.

The countdown of the 50 best Mountain West players -- as well as the countdown to the start of the season -- finally reaches its conclusion. Football starts on Thursday, and it is a glorious thing, and with one day left gives us one more spot on our top 50 countdown.

Everyone already knew who the top spot would be, but the No. 1 player voted on by staff here is Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr. Carr is the reigning 2012 Mountain West player of the year, the preseason player of the year and last season played with a torn abdomen.

His stats were quite amazing by completing 67 percent of his passes for 4,104, Carr threw 37 touchdowns and seven interceptions. As it can be seen, Carr was amazing last year and while there is the loss of running back Robbie Rouse, the Bulldogs still have a very receiving corp and should help Carr put up some more gaudy numbers.
