San Jose State was busy on Wednesday as they announced a trio of future football opponents. The Spartans added BYU, Auburn and Oregon State.
The BYU series will be a home-and-home for the 2015 and 2017 series, and the first game will be at Spartan Stadium on Nov. 7, 2015 while the second game will be at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo on Oct. 28, 2017. This will be the 17th meeting between the two schools, and believe it or not San Jose State holds the all-time edge at 10-6. The two teams played last year with San Jose State defeating BYU, 20-14.
The other home-and-home series that was announced came from Oregon State that will take place in 2015 and 2020. The series will begin at Reser Stadium in Corvallis, Ore., on Sept. 19, 2015, and the second game will be be at Spartan Stadium in San Jose on Sept. 19, 2020.
The final matchup announcement came from the SEC where San Jose State will play at Auburn in 2014 and 2015. Head coach Ron Caragher is excited to get his school out in front of a big-time program such as Auburn:
"Any chance to put our brand out there, our style of play at a national level is exciting for me," Caragher said. "The theme of our program is to embrace challenge because that's when you grow when you're in a challenged, adverse situation. Having experience in that conference, I know it's there. Large crowds, just great football."
These are some big time schools added to the Spartans schedules, and it certainly will prepare them for Mountain West play. Getting Oregon State to come to town is a plus, too bad there was no way to get Auburn to head to the West Coast.
The 2015 non-conference slate is set for the Spartans with hosting BYU and then traveling to Oregon State and Auburn. Their 2014 out of conference schedule is complete with games at Auburn, North Dakota, at Minnesota and at Navy.
