2013 Mountain West player rankings: No. 8, New Mexico RB Kasey Carrier

The 50 player countdown to the start of the 2013 college football season continues with the No. 8 spot.

The countdown of the 50 best Mountain West players -- as well as the countdown to the start of the season -- continues with the No. 8 spot who happens to be New Mexico Lobos running back Kasey Carrier. Carrier had a slow start to the 2012 season, and did not even play in the Lobos season opening win against Southern, and there were another five games where Carrier rushed for less than 100 yards.

Despite that he had an amazing season where he rushed for 1,469 yards, 15 touchdowns and a 5.76 yard per carry average. His game that really put him on the map was when Carrier blew up against Air Force for 336 yards with an 8.67 yard per carry average and had three touchdowns.

A lot of Carrier's big games came against bad teams as Texas State, Hawaii and New Mexico State. So, there is something to his success being against bad teams. However, nationally the Lobos rushing offense was fifth in the nation. Now that Carrier will be in his second year in Bob Davie's pistol and run-heavy offense look for some of his numbers to be even better, and if the passing game can improve as well that should be able to open up more running lanes for Carrier to have some big game.
