The initial USA Today coaches poll was released on Thursday, and there only happened to be one Mountain West team ranked which was Boise State at No. 19. San Jose State, Utah State and Fresno State all received votes, but now the attention turns to what ranked teams Mountain West schools will face this year.
The Mountain West as a league will face nine ranked teams, well technically 10 teams since Boise State is ranked and will play eight Mountain West teams. Those teams are No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 4 Stanford, No. 11 Notre Dame, No. 12 Florida State, No. 18 Nebraska, No. 19 Boise State No. 21 UCLA, No. 24 USC and No. 25 Oregon State.
Then there are another five non-Mountain West opponents, and then the trio of Mountain West schools Fresno State, Utah State and San Jose State.
For a team-by-team look below is a chart showing which Mountain West teams will be playing ranked opponents.
Mountain West team | Ranked opponent |
Air Force Falcons | No. 19 Boise State, RV Utah State, No. 11 Notre Dame, |
Boise St. Broncos | RV Washington, RV Fresno State, RV Utah State, RV BYU, |

Utah State Aggies | No. 24 USC, RV Utah State, RV BYU, No. 19 Boise State, |

Out of this initial set of rankings, Nevada has the toughest schedule with three ranked teams, and three receiving votes, and then San Diego State probably comes in next with also three ranked teams but only two are receiving votes.
